Week 2 Update

Hello sailfish families!

We are officially in week 2 of practices. Thanks for everyone’s patience last week for evaluations and practices. The first week is always a little chaotic, but it levels out. Here is this week’s update on what to expect in the week ahead:

-Practices we will continue work in our freestyle and backstroke technique and start incorporating breaststroke into our practices. This one takes most kids the longest to get down, so we like to start early.

-Friday June 5th we have grill night fundraiser at the pool. The grill will be ready at 5:30pm at Potomac Station Pool. You can purchase burgers, hot dogs, chips, and ice cream. Come out and support the Sailfish and have one less day to make a meal!

-Saturday June 6th at 8:00 am is Time Trials. Time trials is where you can sign your swimmer up for every event and get times in them for the season. If your swimmer does not know what breaststroke or butterfly is, just sign them up for freestyle and backstroke. Time trail declaration is open on the Swimtopia app, so please declare your swimmer by Wednesday June 3rd at 11:59pm. It is just a meet for our team, but it helps get swimmers used to how a meet is run, the sounds of the buzzer, and overall team environment for meets. Time trials will not have relays, so it does shorten our end time just a little bit.

Mentors- Coach Adam will be sending an email with options for you to track your hours. Be on the lookout.

A couple housekeeping notes- we encourage all swimmers to wear swim caps for practice. We will notify you of when we do get our caps and shirts in and how to receive those once they are in. Also, please have your swimmers bring water! Believe it or not, you still sweat while you swim, you just can’t tell in the water. The weather is getting warm, the distance will gradually continue to increase, and cramping will happen unless swimmers are well hydrated.

See you in the pool deck!
